Winter Board Meeting Report
Seminarian List for 2009 - 2010

Church Commission: The Knoxville Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Church Commission is very blessed to have as its main focus this year the celebration of the Year of the Priests. What a gift our Holy Father has presented to us! While praying for priests and seminarians and for vocations to the holy priesthood has always been a priority for KDCCW, this special year offers us an extra opportunity to demonstrate our support for all of our priests in a very unique way. There are endless possibilities to provide our love, gratitude and encouragement to our priests and seminarians, and to pray even more diligently for vocations to the priesthood. In particular, the Church Commission is promoting Eucharistic Adoration and the daily recitation of the Rosary for Priests, including prayer for seminarians and an increase of vocations to the priesthood. There are abundant resources available on-line to assist anyone interested in participating in the Year of the Priest. Also, you may read below for a list of further suggestions. The KDCCW Church Commission continues to promote praying the Liturgy of the Hours which is a grace and wonderful means of participating in the daily prayer of the Church and a blessed way to support our priests each day as we join in their prayers. Let us also renew our past KDCCW resolution commitment to pray and fast on the first Monday of every month for peace and love and the unification and strengthening of our membership. God is never outdone in generosity and His faithfulness to us is unfathomable. May we respond to God's gift of the Priesthood, which nurtures us with Sacrament, by our deepening gratitude and prayerful thoughts, words and deeds during this blessed Year of the Priest.

Please join with our global sisters ~ NCCW President, Patty Johnson, reports in the April FYI that the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations (WUCWO) Day of Prayer will be held on May 13, 2010. The main focus of the Prayer Service is to "eliminate violence against women." Please check out the web site www.wucwo.org under the heading "Women in Church" to view the prayer service, and to check out the other interesting activities of WUCWO. It would be a blessing and a grace if we could unite in prayer with our WUCWO sisters throughout the world on their Day of Prayer. Thank you. Peace and God's blessings.

Smoky Mountain Deanery CCW Organization Commission Report

This year I intend to focus on capturing the interest of diocesan teens and young adults in KDCCW. I want young people to understand the power of organization. This is quite evident in the Catholic Church which as a world-wide institution is unparalleled in its perpetual positive impact on the human community.

This is also true of CCW, the rings of which reach out from from local to national to global communities. CCW offers Catholic women a voice that is respected and the means for effectively carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ in the world.

Good Evening to All, Thank You to all who sent me cards or emails welcoming me as the new Family Commission Chair. I feel so welcome into this wonderful family at KDCCW and I want you to know that you are such a blessing to my life.

I would like to bring your attention to the following link; www.dioknox.org/categories/events/
to our diocese website to browse some of the classes they are coming up. With everything that has been in the news regarding the sexual abuse, etc within the Catholic Church I feel it would benefit anyone to participate in the upcoming class regarding "HOW TO TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT SEXUAL ABUSE." Some of you may even be interested in attending this class and bringing the information back to your Parish CCW meetings. You can never be too careful these days and we ALL want to keep ALL children safe, not just within our Parish.

I am attaching a file on the Recall of Kids' Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, Benadryl that you might want to pass to ALL those that you know. I hope this helps.

Community Concerns Commission (CCC)

Loretta Lowden, Chairman
Helen Percle, Committee Member
Linda Lambert, Committee Member

The Community Concerns Commission of the Knoxville Diocese will again focus on projects and activities centering on serving the needs of our own parishioners and those in our communities needing help.

Last year, we focused on trying to help with providing the basic needs of families struggling in this economy. Many of us raised money, created projects, and served with our parish and community agencies to help provide food, clothing, and shelter to those in need.

This year, we hope to go one step further. We will continue the effort to help families with basic needs, and will focus on providing health services for those who can not afford them. We will identify the providers in our community who are willing and able to offer dental, vision, and medical services to those who do not have the resources to obtain them. Contacting medical clinics in our communities might be a good way to begin focusing on this objective. I thank you for your assistance and support in fulfilling this goal.

May Our Lady help us, may God bless us, and may we be successful in helping our brothers and sisters in need.

Human Trafficking continues to flourish and thrive in the midst of our own communities. The focus for this year will again be Human Trafficking. This is a travesty that continues to grow bringing in up to $10 billion dollars by the exploitation of men, women and children who end up in prostitution and/or forced labor. Catholic Relief Services and Catholic Charities USA provide comprehensive programs to help victims. Resources are available to help stop trafficking. Tool kits are available for parishes to help educate and provide useful resources.

Legislation Commission

    Julie Drake - Chair
Marlene Holt, Commission member

The focus of the Legislation Commission is to educate affiliates and members of the Knoxville Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in the legislative process and how to become personally involved. This may be accomplished through seminars, workshops, correspondence, and other means. We must always keep in mind the Church's teaching in all matters. Members are encouraged to write letters to their newspaper editors, participate in post card campaigns, and write personal letters to their local, state, and national legislators. It is the responsibility of each member to become familiar with candidates and issues. I will be sending a list of web sites that will be helpful in your research, as well as information that I receive from various sources. Thank you for all that you have done in the past and what you will continue doing in the future to improve the quality of life in your communities, in your state, and in your nation.
